FRACTIONAL SKIN RESURFACING

The Palomar StarLux 1540 fractional laser delivers light in an array of narrow, focused microbeams to create columns of coagulation (heat) within the skin. The heated tissue within the columns initiates a natural healing process that forms new, healthy tissue. This results in a fresher, more youthful skin tone and texture. It also removes pigmented sun damage and fills in acne scars. This treatment can be safely performed on the face, neck, chest, hands and abdomen. There is no downtime with this procedure and it can be performed in an hour or less (depending on area treated).Three treatments are recommended in intervals of once monthly.

What makes StarLux Fractional treatments different from other Skin Resurfacing methods?

Some skin resurfacing devices, such as CO2 lasers, use the ablative method, with removes the epidermis and some of the dermis. While good results are eventually seen, the drawbacks include red and raw skin, and a risk of infection for several weeks after treatment.
The Palomar StarLux Fractional Laser is non-ablative and leaves the epidermis intact, so there is not any "downtime". Other devices use the non-ablative method: sending light pulses into the dermis, while leaving the epidermis intact. This allows for quick recovery, but when the light pulses do not penetrate far into the dermis, the change in skin tone and texture is less effective.

What should I expect after treatment?

You may experience redness, warmth, swelling, or tightness in the treated area, which typically fades within a few hours of treatment. The skin may often have a pinkish tone for 5-7 days. Generally, you can receive a treatment and go back to work or to other activities without recovery time.
